The hilarious 3D museum Chiang Mai, Thailand

Thailand

Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is not a museum destination. Frankly, it is mister nature that you seek in this touristic hotspot. But since 2013 it has a true art museum to boast: Art in Paradise 3D Museum. Though, rather than patience and a keen eye, this art museum requires your creativity and participation. So immerse in the world of optical illusions and unbind your inner child. I know you have one.

We sure do. Although, unlike us, upon entering the museum you should know how it works. All the museum really exists of is murals. But they are cleverly positioned, seeming perfectly 3D when seen from the right angles. You find the best spots marked on the floor, allowing for you to immerse in hilarious situations. Once we found that out (after room 3) not even the sky was the limit: you can impersonate hovering angels and visit heaven. Then I made my first surfboard ride and, shortly after, a trip to mysterious Egypt where we discovered tombs and pharaohs. Oh, and I had my own cover shooting for Time magazine! Most of all, we had some of the greatest unashamed laughs-out-loud this year. And a ridiculously full SD-card.

At a slow pace you will take up to 2 hours maximum to make it back to a fresh plate of Pad Thai. Don’t forget to fully charge your camera, because your 2D proof makes this all the more fun. It is cool to visit with two, but it is better to have three or more. The most hilarious photo versions I have seen were done by a bunch of people. By the way, if on your trip to Thailand you happen to skip Chiang Mai, grieve no longer: Bangkok has its own 3D Museum location (in Din Daeng, just north of the shopping mall area). In Chiang Mai you find it in the labyrinth center. If you cannot find it, ask anyone and you will be there shortly. Enjoy!
